Embezzlement case accused to be tried in court

Muscat: Oman’s Public Prosecution has announced that it has moved an alleged case of embezzlement by government officials to trial.
A statement by the Public Prosecution read, “The Public Prosecution has moved the case of embezzlement which is alleged to be the work of some Ministry of Education officials to the competent court, which began looking into the case.”
The case first became known in April, after rumours implicated specific employees in the Ministry of Education in a misappropriation scam. At the time, the Government Cooperation Centre (GC) urged the public to await word from the Public Prosecution.
The statement by the GC in April read: “In light of what has now become called the Ministry of education embezzlement and the questions regarding the truth of some ministry officials having been found embezzling at the ministry, the GC would like to confirm that the authority, namely the Public Prosecution, continues to investigate the case in coordination with the authorities at the State Audit Institution and the ministry.”
