Muscat: The State Financial and Administrative Institution (SFAAI) has received 423 complaints  from citizens and residents through the SFAAI website, www.sai.gov.om, since July last year.

Reports with concrete evidence have been referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation. The final reports will then be returned to the SFAAI, an officer at SFAAI told Times of Oman.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution has recently completed the investigation of several cases that were referred by the SFAAI.

The Public Prosecution has completed the investigation of 99 per cent of the cases referred by the Audit Institution, which will soon be forwarded to the courts for trial, said Attorney-General Hussain Al Hilali.

Al Hilali refuted claims circulating on social networks that there are any former ministers named in these cases, who are set to stand trial.

So far, 30 cases have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation, the adviser said. The referred cases include allegations of neglecting duties in a manner that led to financial losses for the Treasury, exploiting public services for personal purposes, smuggling oil products subsidised by the government, committing fraud with official documents during the disbursement of funds, distorting official documents to benefit others, changing data to benefit relatives, embezzling charity funds, misappropriating public funds and making false statements to benefit others.
