Sinha defeat OCT Muscat to spoil winning streak

Muscat: Sinha inflicted OCT Muscat A first defeat in the Khimji Ramdas sponsored 30 overs a side B Division league tournament  in a match played during the week end at the Municipality Ground No.1 at Al Amerat.

Electing to bat OCT Muscat A lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 144 off 28.1 overs their lowest score of the season. The major contributors were opening batsman Shakeel Mahmood 28, Shoaib Ismail 25, Skipper Mohammed Aslam 23 and Samir Mohammed 20. Suresh Janaka with figures of 4 for 29 was the pick of the bowlers whilst Nalinda Kularatne 3 for 26 and skipper Dileepa Wanasinghe 2 for 25 lent valuable support.
Sinha who had lost to OCT Muscat A in their previous two matches came back strongly to reach their target losing five wickets with 9.2 overs to spare. Dhammika Premadasa coming in at the fall of the first wicket top scored with 47 whilst Nalaka Pathum chipped in with a useful 33. Mohammed Ali picked up two wickets conceding 28 runs off 5 overs.

Brief scores: OCT Muscat A 144 all out off 28.1 overs (Shakeel Mahmood 28, Shoaib Ismail 25 and Mohammed Aslam 23 and Sameer Mohammed 20; Suresh Janaka 4/29, Nalinda Kularatne 3/26 and Dileepa Wanasinghe 2/25) lost to Sinha 145 for the loss of 5 wickets off 20.2 overs (Dhammika Premadasa 47 and Nalaka Pathum 33; Mohammed Ali 2/28). Points: Sinha – 5 points (7 games – 24 points) and OCT Muscat A - Nil points (7 games – 26 points).  

Al Hashim Projects win
In the afternoon at the same venue Al Hashim Projects stayed unbeaten when they crushed Ahli Bank by a massive 136 runs in a G Division Group A match.

Taking first strike Al Hashim Projects piled on 280 runs for 5 at the end of their quota of 25 overs. Suraj Rao top scored with 87 whilst opening batsman Mohammed Rashid 62, Omani player Sharif Pindook 56 not out and skipper Aneer Mon 24 all made useful contributions. Maaz Sidiqui bowled a tight line to finish with bowling figures of 3 for 49 off 5 overs.

Set a daunting target of 281 for a win Ahli Bank could only muster 144 for 9 at the end of 25 overs with Ajay Kumar batting at No.8 chipping in with 34. The bowlers to be amongst the wickets were Aneer Mon 3 for 19 and Mohammed Rashid 2 for 23 off 5 overs each.

Points: Al Hashmi Projects - 2 points (6 games – 12 points) Ahli Bank - Nil points (6 games – 2 points).

Nayaz shines for E&Y

Ernst & Young aided by a brilliant unbroken 154 run second wicket partnership between Mohammed Nayaz 74 not out and an unbeaten 60 from Saif Shamsuddin recorded a huge nine wicket win against OCT Hatat. The Raha Poly Products sponsored 25 overs a side D Division match was played on the adjoining ground No.3 at Al Amerat.

Electing to bat OCT Hatat scored 181 for the loss of six wickets at the end of the stipulated 25 overs. Coming in at fall of the first wicket with nine runs on the board Nathar Al Balushi 52 and opening batsman Ateef Yousuf 43 put on 86 runs for the second wicket and with a useful 30 from Abdullah Mohammed took the score to respectability. Sriram Sridharan and Syed Osama Afaq claimed two wickets each giving away 26 and 33 runs respectively.
Requiring 182 for a win Ernst & Young raced to their target losing the wicket of opening batsman Hassan Hussain 27 off 18.5 overs.

Brief scores: OCT Hatat 181 for the loss of 6 wickets off 25 overs (Nathar Al Balushi 52, Ateef Yusuf 43 and Abdullah Mohammed 30; Sriram Sridharan 2/26 and Syed Osama Afaq 2/33) lost to Ernst & Young 185 for the loss of 1 wicket off 18.5 overs (Mohammed Nayaz 74no, Saif Shamsuddin 60no and Hassan Hussain 27). Points: Ernst & Young - 2 points (5 games – 8 points) and OCT Hatat - Nil points (6 games – 2 points).
