Muscat: A meeting was held at Muscat International Airport on Tuesday to discuss a number of flight and airport-related issues, including the need to devise a clear procedure to deal with cases involving workers arriving with an unclear status.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the authorities concerned, including the Ministry of Manpower, Oman Airports Management Company (OMAC), Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Ministry of Health. A number of topics were discussed by the officials and the labour issue was high on the agenda.
The meeting took place after a housemaid had been reported staying at Muscat International Airport for several days. The Times of Oman correspondent was informed on Monday that a housemaid had been wandering around at the airport since Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, her situation was not clear and it was difficult to communicate with her.
When asked about the issue, the ROP said they had done "whatever necessary." They had contacted her sponsor and the process was under way. According to an enquiry by Times of Oman, there is no clear procedure to deal with such situations.
The meeting also highlighted the need for adopting a clear-cut procedure and clarifying which authorities should be involved in the process.
Follow-up discussions on the issue will be held in the coming days, and the outcome will be announced in due course.
The meeting was held in line with the efforts of the concerned officials to provide a pleasant experience for passengers at the airport, which will contribute to the promotion of the quality of flights and airport-related services.
Meanwhile, the housemaid was transferred to the police station on Monday, till a final decision is taken on her case.
