Muscat: Members of Kerala Wing of Indian Social Club (ISC) paid rich tributes to Jnanpith awardee and literary genius UR Anathamurthy, who passed away last Friday at a private hospital in Bangalore.

Paying tributes to the litterateur, the entire gathering stood for a minute to observe silence, and then heard a speech on his contribution to the society.

Wilson V. George, chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools, said, "Though he belonged to Karnataka, we, the Malayalees, always felt that Anathamurthy was one of us.

He will always have a name and place in the hearts of all Malayalees, thanks to his tremendous involvement in the academic affairs and education scenario of Kerala throughout his career in his capacity as the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala."
