Muscat: The Pakistani community in Oman celebrated their country's 68th Independence Day Friday.
The celebrations started with a well-attended flag hoisting ceremony at the Embassy of Pakistan. Syed Ayaz Hussain, Ambassador of Pakistan, raised the national flag to begin the Independence Day celebrations. The ambassador also read messages from the Pakistani President and Prime Minister.

A special prayer was offered for the solidarity, safety and progress of Pakistan, as well as for the health and long life of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Pakistan School Muscat continued its tradition of celebrating the country's Independence Day in a grand way, as Adnan Shehzad, Chairman, Board of Directors of Pakistani Schools in Oman, and Lt. Col. (retd) Tauseef Kamal, PSM Principal, welcomed guests.
After the traditional flag hoisting by the chief guest, Syed Ayaz Hussain, the students presented a colourful tableaux and sang national songs, drawing generous applause from the sizeable gathering. The show was conducted by Shazia Safdar and Humaira Chaudry. Later in the day, the celebrations included a cake-cutting and awards ceremony at Al Falaj Hotel, sponsored by the Pakistan Social Club.
