Muscat: The 'Tour Oman' application was launched recently by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), coinciding with the beginning of the Salalah Tourism Festival.
The application was launched as part of the efforts to provide latest statistics and information related to economic, social and tourism aspects of Oman.
It is also part of the centre's approach to ensure that people in Oman have access to these services.
Developed as part of the NCSI's plan to provide spatial services, the application gives access to information, backed with geographical locations, to citizens as well as visitors to Oman.
As NCSI's newest application, the 'Tour Oman' app currently covers tourist, historic and archaeological sites.
These include information about natural tourist attractions like water springs, wadis, seasonal and permanent, and waterfalls.
In addition, the app also provides information about museums, hotels, restaurants, parks, shopping, entertainment and recreational centres as well as complete background information about hospitals, schools, banks, ministries and other governmental bodies.
The 'Tour Oman' app is also aimed at providing visitors with essential information while exploring the country, including information about government and private sector services, ATMs, hotels, historic and archaeological sites, and natural tourist attractions around Oman.
The application includes search tools on how to reach the desired destination, its location on the map, services around it and efficient road network navigation.
Although it mostly covers the Dhofar Governorate, the application will eventually cover other areas of Oman.
Users are free to download this application from the Apple Store and Google Play Store on to their smartphones.
