Muscat: Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA) recently organised awareness activities at the Shangrila Barr Al Jissa Hotel and Resort, celebrating Qaranqashow with the aim of raising awareness among children and families while using roads, whether as pedestrians, cyclists, or as passengers in vehicles.
The activities included talks about the dangers of speeding, the importance of seat belts and child restraints, the danger of using mobile phones and the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations.
Flyers were distributed to different road users. The organisers even used a dummy car and a dummy school bus to demonstrate their point. Some goodies and sweets were distributed to celebrate Qaranqashow .
More than 200 people visited the association's 'corner' and benefited from the activities.
The Qaranqashow activity is part of ORSA's new youth awareness programme titled 'Be Street Smart'.
Commenting on it, Shaima Al-Lawati, ORSA Chief Executive Officer, said, "Oman Road Safety Association has been working closely with this young energetic team to enhance awareness and carry out such activities. Educating our volunteers about the latest best practices in road safety is a primary way to ensure safety on the roads. With the participation of Oman's youth, we will be able to deliver these messages in an effective way to change the attitude and behaviour of the community."
