Muscat: The Supreme Council for Planning, in a meeting held on Wednesday, approved a proposal to conduct electronic census for 2020.
This was the third meeting of the Supreme Council this year under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry who is also the vice-chairman of the council.
The meeting was also attended by various ministers who are members of the council. The electronic census proposal, which was approved by Supreme Council, will help integrate information from multiple government agencies to gain access to more accurate data about individuals, housing and establishments. Thanks to modern technology, the data bank will be of great help in the planning process.
The council also reviewed the progress report for preparing the ninth five year plan for 2016-2020.
The plan will be prepared in cooperation with the various government units.
The Supreme Council also reviewed the dossier prepared by the National Centre for Statistics and Information about the adoption of a clear methodology for statistical and geographical structures. This methodology will help government units in taking action or drafting policy for development plans.
It also discussed various projects for the governorates and discussed about the infrastructure planning standards and other issues.
