Muscat: The construction of the OMR25 million The Wave Plaza Hotel is expected to start in the last quarter of 2014 and it will become operational in the first quarter of 2016, according to Taameer Investment.
The hotel will be an upmarket four-star property featuring 200 rooms, Suleiman bin Masoud Al Harthy, CEO of Taameer Investment, told reporters on the occasion of a ceremony to launch this project.
Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Shabibi, minister of housing, was the guest of honour at the ceremony.
The hotel is going to be built in the marina of The Wave, which is one of the best locations in the development, Al Harthy said. The hotel will consist of suites, a number of restaurants, a business centre, multi-function rooms, and rooftop recreation facilities and a fitness centre.
An agreement was signed with Shaza Hotels, member of the Kempenski group, to manage and operate the hotel.
In addition, Al Harthy said, "We are the first developer which is 100 per cent private and is investing in The Wave."
Omanisation and training
At least 150 people will be employed in the hotel, he said, adding that Omanisation and training for Omanis will also be considered as part of the project.
"We believe that there is great potential for Tameer in the tourism sector. It is one of the sectors in which we feel we can grow with the growth of the country."
Al Harthy also said that he sees a bright future for the Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC) development in Oman.
"It adds value to the tourism and development and creates job opportunities. We might have some people who are not in favour of ITCs, but we look at it positively because we are local here and we know the industry well," he said.
Additionally, Hawazen Esber, CEO of The Wave, Muscat, said, "The Wave Plaza Hotel will be an additional tourism component in our world class destination, adding to the vibrant harbour-side piazza. The prime location of the hotel on the marina end of the main boulevard will enhance our new retail precinct, The Walk, which opens next month."
