Muscat: Almouj Golf, the PGA standard 18-hole links golf course at The Wave, Muscat, has won the Gold Award for 'Best Golf Club' at this year's Mena (Middle East North Africa) Travel Awards held recently in Dubai.
The accolade recognises the golf course for reflecting one of the highest standards in regional hospitality and leisure, and was voted for independently by travelers, guests and customers worldwide.
"First and foremost I would like to extend our gratitude to all club members and visitors who voted for us and made this prestigious win happen," said Hawazen Esber, CEO of The Wave, Muscat.
He added: "This is the first time we compete for the title and to win Gold at first attempt is truly a great achievement for Almouj Golf specifically and The Wave, Muscat, more generally. The awards celebrate skill, creativity, and ingenuity in the growing regional travel industry, and these qualities are central to our vision for developing diverse and world class leisure experiences for our members, Muscat residents, visitors to Oman and golfers around the world."
Simon Duffield, General Manager of Almouj Golf, said: "Almouj Golf has developed into one of the key sporting facilities in the country and we are proud to provide such a high standard to local and international golfers of all ages and abilities. Being recognized on the regional stage is a major step forward for us and an accomplishment we aim to build on in the coming year."
Designed by legendary golfer Greg Norman, the par-72 PGA standard championship course, named amongst the Top 10 Middle East Golf Courses 2013 by Golf Digest, offers unique characteristics at each hole and panoramic views of the ocean and Al Hajar Mountains throughout.
The course is also paving the way for talented young golfers to learn from professionals with a nine-hole par-three floodlit course at Almouj Golf Academy, the first of its kind in Muscat.
