Farm and fishery vital for Oman's economy

Muscat: As many as 75 research papers will be presented at the First National Conference on Agricultural and Fisheries Research, being organised by Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, The Research Council (TRC), and the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund at the SQU.

The opening ceremony of the two-day conference was held on Monday under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hinai, State Council Adviser.

Speaking on the occasion, His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad bin Julanda Al Said, chairman of the Conference and the TRC Assistant Secretary-General for the Development of Innovation, said that the event would enable agricultural and fisheries researchers to gain from each other's experiences, present their research, and exchange ideas about the future of these sectors.

The agriculture and fisheries sectors have always been supported by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who has called for the development and improvement of these sectors through research and studies.

The organisers noted that agriculture and fisheries are important sectors in Oman's economy. The conference will also feature 35 scientific posters and 40 scientific papers.
