Oman to purchase air defence system from Raytheon

Muscat: In response to the royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and the royal car accorded to provide the armed forces with their needs and enhance their capabilities, Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al-Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, signed in his office on Monday a contract for the purchase of air defence system from Raytheon of USA, while it was signed on behalf of Raytheon by Dr. Thomas A. Kennedy, CEO and Chief Operations at Raytheon Company.


The contract comes within the constant upgrading of capabilities of the Sultan's Armed Forces and adding new capacities to the Royal Air Force of Oman in a bid to help them play their prospective national roles.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mohammed bin Nasser al-Rasbi, Secretary General at the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice-Marshal Matar bin Abdullah al-Obaidani, Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman, the US ambassador to the Sultanate, the US Military Attaché and a number of Raytheon executives.
