Muscat: Oman's largest 10-screen and 7-screen VOX Cinemas — owned by Majid Al Futtaim Ventures — will open at the Muscat City Centre (MCC) and Qurum City Centre (QCC), respectively, in early 2014.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Cameron Mitchell, the CEO of the Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas, said that VOX Cinemas at Muscat City Centre and at the Qurum City Centre will implement the latest in digital cinema technology, including 3D-enabled screens.
"VOX Cinemas will also be the first to introduce the 'mega-screen' concept with VOX MAX, bringing a larger than life movie experience. It will also feature DepthQ®3D, the world's fastest polarisation technology. DepthQ® 3D utilises newly patented technology to give you the brightest, clearest, most immersive 3D experience possible.
"DepthQ® 3D easily meets the demanding image quality standards of all major Hollywood studios and, because of its unprecedented speed, is ready to show the next generation of high frame rate 3D movies made by the likes of James Cameron and Peter Jackson," he said.
DepthQ®, by Lightspeed Design, Inc., has been a worldwide leader in stereoscopic 3D for 19 years, developing landmark hardware and software technologies and delivering cutting-edge 3D experiences to the most discerning clientele including Disney & DreamWorks.
With all its screens 100 per cent digitally enabled, VOX Cinemas has invested in the latest digital cinema technology to bring a "never-seen-before" movie-going experience for the community.
"It will also have exclusive 'VIP' seating which offers larger, more spacious seats, a gourmet-style menu and flexible ticketing options," he said.
Regarding entering the Oman market, the CEO said that the VOX Cinemas is targeting Oman as it represents an attractive growth market and will benefit from additional screens in the coming years.
"Characterised by a relatively underdeveloped — but emerging, cinema landscape, there is a prime opportunity to leverage the success of VOX Cinemas in the UAE and export the 'big-screen' digital VOX MAX experience to the residents of Oman," he said.
He also said that like any new entry into a market, VOX Cinemas will ensure that their service levels are excellent.
"We are optimistic that VOX Cinemas will set a new standard of cinematic entertainment for Oman, and we have positioned ourselves in prime locations within the capital to ensure we quickly become the exhibitor of choice within the country. VOX Cinemas recently opened a new market for our VOX Cinemas brand in Beirut and have quickly cemented ourselves as the leading cinema there," he said.
It may be recalled that Majid Al Futtaim Properties had announced a major redevelopment of the Muscat City Centre and the Qurum City Centre.
With an investment of OMR11.3 million, the project will see a combined total of approximately 80,000sq. ft retail space to the malls. It was learnt that the Muscat City Centre will add circa 48,500sq. ft of retail space while the Qurum City Centre is to expand by circa 31,600sq. ft to feature a new Magic Planet family entertainment centre and a 7-screen VOX Cinema.
"With all works projected for completion by early 2014, the Muscat City Centre and the Qurum City Centre will set a new standard of entertainment in Oman and will significantly boost the emerging entertainment landscape and foster positive economic and tourism growth for the Sultanate," Fuad Sharaf, senior director – Property Management for Majid Al Futtaim Properties said.
