Muscat: The Committee on Student Research Support Programme at The Research Council, headed by Dr Saif bin Abdullah Al Haddabi, assistant secretary-general for Research and Scientific Programmes, approved 42 research proposals involving a budget of OMR89,989.
This approval was part of the budget cleared to support research during the first year of the programme. Eighty-seven research proposals were submitted by undergraduate students from seven government and private colleges and universities in the Sultanate through the council's electronic system.
These proposals were evaluated by the institutions' committees for research proposals.
A number of criteria
The student research proposals were subjected to a number of criteria to compete for support provided by the programme.
The committee also took into account the order adopted by the committee on evaluation of research proposals at each academic institution, as well as the suitability of the research proposal to the conditions and criteria set out in the programme.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Higher Education received in the General Diwan of the ministry yesterday the Omani cultural attaches posted in Britain, USA, Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, India, Egypt, Jordan and Australia.
Dr Al Sarmi stressed the importance of such meetings that serve the educational process due to their impact in limiting challenges and building up strategies that could contribute to developing work whether at the level of the ministry or the cultural attaches.
The meeting comes as part of the initiative to tackle the challenges facing students in these countries and reviewing the needs of the cultural attaches to facilitate the procedures and services being provided for the students.
