Oman, Singapore seek to strengthen cooperation in clean energy and green hydrogen

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Singapore seek to strengthen cooperation in economic field and encourage the private sector of both countries to invest in various sectors, especially clean energy and green hydrogen.

Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, said that within the framework of the state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Republic Singapore, areas were identified for investment in clean energy and discussions were held on the production of green hydrogen by the Sultanate of Oman and its use worldwide for reducing carbon emissions.

He said that the Singaporean side had been informed on the works and projects that the Sultanate of Oman had signed during the past three years with major international companies in the field of clean energy with the ambition of the Sultanate of Oman to produce approximately one million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, and about 8.5 million tonnes by 2050.

The Minister of Energy and Minerals indicated that a delegation from the Singaporean Ministry of Industry and Trade and a number of companies related to consumption, transportation and storage of green hydrogen will be visiting the Sultanate of Oman to review its capabilities for encouraging and attracting investment in this sector and inspect ready-made facilities, such as ports and others.

He said that the team will examine the possibility of entering into competition for lands offered to invest in the field of green hydrogen or enter into alliances or as partners for the Sultanate Oman for liquefying and transporting hydrogen, in addition to exchanging knowledge, research and studies related to green hydrogen transport.--
