Two expats sentenced to prison, banned from re-entering Oman

Muscat: Two expats have been sentenced to three months in prison in addition to being banned from re-entering the Sultanate, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) announced.

According to officials, the expats were arrested for manufacturing and selling "chewing and non-smoking tobacco". Officials also said that the preliminary court in Buraimi issued a judgement against the "two Asian nationals for violating the Consumer Protection Act".

Officials from Oman's consumer watchdog said that PACP in Al Buraimi received a complaint from a consumer, claiming that there was a house where an expat had been manufacturing and selling tobacco. With the help of the Royal Oman Police, the department inspected the house and large amounts of tobacco and funds were confiscated.

The accused were fined OMR 1,000, and sentenced to prison for three months. The two will also be deported from the country.
