Oman condemns bomb attack at Ethiopian PM rally

Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has condemned the bombing in Addis Ababa, that targeted a rally taken out by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Saturday afternoon.

An official MOFA statement on Twitter called the bombing a terrorist attack and condoled the victims, besides expressing solidarity with Ethiopia, a nation with which Oman has friendly relations.

“Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) strongly condemns the terrorist attack that targeted a rally of supporters of prime minister of Ethiopia in the capital of the country that led to a death and a number of injuries.

“The statement stresses the Sultanate's solidarity with the friendly Republic of Ethiopia against the scourge of violence and terrorism, expressing sincere condolences to the victims and the injured,” the MOFA statement read.

PM Abiy Ahmed was whisked away by security personnel right away and is said to be safe.

Earlier, this afternoon, a grenade was hurled at the rally, which killed one and injured 154 people, Ethiopian health minister, Amir Aman tweeted.
“Update at 3:00 pm. Total reported casualties -154, critical cases -10, death -1,” Aman tweeted.
