Man sentenced to prison, fined OMR550 in Oman

Muscat: A man in Oman has been sentenced to three months in prison in addition to being fined OMR550 for placing a fake business advertisement, Oman’s consumer watchdog said.
Officials from the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) said that the accused placed a fake advertisement on a website. According to the ad, the man owned an agency that helped recruit Filipino domestic workers.
The complaint was filed when a consumer contacted the accused and later agreed to pay OMR1,200 to hire a worker. The consumer then transferred the entire amount to the accused’s account. However, after waiting for nearly one year to receive a worker, the consumer approached the consumer protection administration in Al Buraimi.
Officials informed that the suspect was referred to Public Prosecution where he was sentenced to three months imprisonment and was ordered to pay a fine of OMR550. The accused also repaid the consumer his money with an additional amount that brought up the total to OMR1,350.
