Oman weather: Rain, dust storms forecast for parts of Sultanate

Muscat: More rain has been forecast for parts of Dhofar as Khareef season gets underway, while a dust storm is likely to affect visibility in three other governorates.
The governorates of Buraimi, Dahirah, and Wusta are expected to be affected by the dust storm. Also, forecasts call for choppy seas along the Arabian Sea coast, according to the official Twitter handle of Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).
There will be clear to partly cloudy skies over the coastal areas of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains, with a chance of intermittent drizzle.
Also, there will be mainly clear skies over the remainder of the Sultanate.
“There is a chance of blowing dust over open areas of the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dahirah, Al Wusta due to strong northwesterly winds. Rough seas are expected along the Arabian Sea coast,” PACA tweeted.
A PACA official said that the public should exercise caution during dust storms.
“Usually, when dust storms happen, we ask people to not go outside. Even if it is important, try to avoid going out as much as possible. This is because it’s a question of your health. Everything else comes later.
“But if you are forced to go out and it is totally unavoidable, then take all necessary precautions. You should cover your mouth with a cloth. It should preferably be a wet cloth. People must also cover their eyes with sunglasses.
“If you don’t take these safety measures, then it will affect your health. It can cause respiratory problems and is dangerous,”
he added.
