Ministry of Tourism, PDO join hands to develop Al Haqaf site

Muscat: The Ministry of Tourism and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop sustainable tourism activities at Al Haqaf site in the Governorate of Al Wusta as a tourism sector initiative.
The agreement is to encourage private investment in natural sites and reserves as part of the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification, which is followed up and supported by the Implementation and Follow-up Support Unit.
The Memorandum of Understanding sets forth the joint cooperation between the Ministry and the Company in development of activities to achieve sustainable tourism development at Al Haqaf site with the commitment to promote and develop the principles of sustainable development of the geological heritage and geological tourism at this site which is one of the three main sites in the first phase that the initiative to encourage private investment in natural sites and reserves focuses on.
The memorandum included items related to the cooperation between the two parties to establish a model known as geological parks and to promote Al Haqaf site, exchange of experiences and training of staff and guides on the used devices and systems, benefit from the database and maps of the company, develop a high quality geological tourist product, involve the community in the development of tourism activities which starts from this site with the possibility of expanding to other locations in the Governorate of Al Wusta during the next two years.
Maitha bint Saif Al Mahrouqiyah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Eng. Abdul-Amir Abdul-Hussein Al Ajmi PDO’s External Affairs and Value Creation Director signed the MoU.
