Babcock invests in Omani youth development

Muscat: As part of its long-term commitment to Oman, Babcock has recently announced a partnership with educational training provider Outward Bound Oman. The partnership will see up to 72 young Omani’s undertake challenging four-day courses designed to develop their self-awareness, confidence, resilience, leadership and team work skills.
First established in the UK in 1941, Outward Bound now operates in 33 countries around the world. Oman is the first Arabic speaking nation to set up an Outward-Bound operation to develop and challenge its human resource.
Since being established in Oman in 2009, Outward Bound Oman has delivered training for more than 10,000 individuals. In 2014 it was further established by Ministerial Decision, and recently the first of three National Training Centres was opened in the Sharqiya Sands. Construction of the second training centre, to be located in Muscat, will commence in April 2018.
General Manager Mark Evans said, "we are extremely grateful that Babcock are choosing to invest the development of young people in Oman through supporting Outward Bound. Many Babcock apprentice engineers undergo soft skills training with Outward Bound in the UK each year. Outward Bound started in the UK in 1941 as a sea school, to train young sailors how to cope with difficult circumstances, and the maritime focus of Babcock fits well with our own maritime background."
Alastair Stangroom, Managing Director of Babcock in Oman said, " Outward Bound is an organisation that Babcock knows very well in the UK and who we use to foster a greater sense of ‘the team’ in our young apprentices. That we continue to do so is indicative of the value that we see Outward Bound providing in the broader development of our next generation employees as they embark upon their chosen career.I am delighted that Babcock Oman is supporting Outward Bound Oman and its ‘skills for life’ ethos, and am proud to be part of the growing Outward Bound family."
