Flat screen TVs will fly off shelves ahead of World Cup

Muscat: The electronic goods sector in Oman is expected to do well this Ramadan, more so than the past few years, observers said.
This is down to the fact that the football World Cup coming up towards the end of the month of Ramadan is likely to drive the sales of flat screen TVs. The World Cup gets underway on June 14.
Anthony Peter, Director, Corporate Communications Division, Panasonic Marketing Middle East and Africa, said that his company had seen a good start to the month and it was expected to continue.
“As the World Cup starts during Eid, we foresee the sales of LED TVs picking up this year. Owing to Panasonic’s strict adherence to high-quality Japanese craftsmanship, advanced technology, and best-in-class features – not to mention complementing this with our timely Ramadan and Eid promotion campaigns – we are confident that we have the right offerings that appeal to our discerning customers in Oman,” he said.
Moreover, he added that similar patterns of buying were set to continue during Ramadan.
The retail sector generally does well during Ramadan as people spend on gifts. Textiles, edibles and electronic goods, among other sectors, pick up, driven in part by the discounts offered.
“The past years have seen a growing interest in kitchen appliances just before Ramadan. In our portfolio of products, our juicers, food processors, microwave ovens and meat grinders are the most popular products that see a boost in sales. As Eid approaches, the trend shifts to choosing gifts for friends and family including upgrading the household. During this period, we see interests shifting to beauty and grooming products," said Peter.
“The Holy Month of Ramadan is a good time for families to spend quality time together. Inviting and visiting friends and relatives for traditional meals calls for products that add comfort and ease, and these are highly sought after during this special occasion," he added.
“Add to it widespread discounts and promotions offered by retailers; these naturally impact consumers’ behaviors, resulting in increased spending,” Peter added.
Bullish about Oman
The Panasonic representative said that their new products had been doing well in the Omani market.
“We recently launched our newest range of residential and commercial air conditioners (ACs) in Oman and we are pleased that these products have, so far, been well received. Panasonic has always been committed to offering total air solutions, thus; we made sure that these ACs offer features that specifically address the needs of our local customers.
“The new models qualify according to the most stringent energy regulations existing in the region and deliver the highest EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating across the range.
“Oman is one of the key markets for us and traditionally, Panasonic has been the market leader for the household appliances category. We are proud to offer the largest line-up of air conditioners to our Omani customers, and we will continue to strengthen our market leadership in providing the best-in-class AC solutions in the domestic market, as well as developing more innovative products that appeal to local preferences,” Peter said.
