Mekunu: Salalah Airport to reopen in a few hours

Muscat: Salalah Airport will reopen to air traffic at midnight tonight, (12:00 am, May 27) according to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).
In a statement released on Twitter, the authority said, "Due to the decreased affect of Cyclone Mekunu, air traffic operations will be resumed in accordance with safety requirements. The Salalah Airport will now open to air traffic starting 12 AM tomorrow, May 27, 2018."
National carrier Oman Air also announced that it would resume services to and from Salalah, in a statement online: "We're pleased to confirm that with the opening of Salalah Airport, Oman Air will operate its first flight after midnight as WY901 / 27 May from Muscat at 0140 LT [local time]."
The airport has been closed to air traffic since Friday.
The announcement comes after Category 2 cyclone Mekunu was first downgraded to a Category 1, and then lower to a tropical storm on Saturday, after making landfall at around 1:00 amon Saturday morning.
