Muscat: Close to 300 residents and citizens in Oman came forward to donate blood, as the Sultanate's Directorate of Blood Banks Services (DBBS) began stockpiling blood, in case of any emergency in the aftermath of Cyclone Mekunu.
A total of 292 people volunteered to donate blood in a donation drive organised by the DBBS in collaboration with Khimji Ramdas.
"Oman's Blood Bank organised a blood donation campaign on Friday morning in cooperation with Khimji Ramdas," a statement on DBBS' website read. "The campaign was a great success with 292 blood donors."
The blood collected can now be flown to Salalah at short notice, in case it's required.
Mekunu has turned into a Category 2 cyclone, with wind speeds of up to 180kph expected, alongside thunderstorms and torrential rain.
