Ministry postpones exams for schools in southern Oman

Muscat: As Cyclone Mekunu nears Oman's southern coast, the Ministry of Education has decided to postpone examinations that were scheduled to be held over the next days.
In a statement online, the ministry said: "The Ministry has decided to postpone General Education Diploma (Grade 12), from May 27 and 28 to June 12 and 13 in all of Dhofar and schools in the wilayat of Jazir, including Suqrah, Al Kuhl, Al Lakbi and Al Kadrah."
The Ministry also postponed grade 11 exams for Omani government schools from May 27 and 28 to June 3 and 4 for all of Dhofar and the wilayat of Jazir in Al Wusta.
For grades 9 and 10 in private bilingual schools in Dhofar, chemistry and biology exams were postponed from May 27 and 28 to June 3 and 4.
The Ministry added that it will continue to follow up and assess the situation, and take necessary action in accordance with the developments in the situation. Furthermore, parents are requested to follow up the ministry's bulletins and to obtain news from only from official sources.
Mekunu, which is expected to intensify into a Category 2 cyclone, could severely affect parts of the Dhofar Governorate and its capital city, Salalah, with the Wusta Governorate and surrounding areas likely to be hit too.
