Tropical storm Mekunu to turn into a cyclone by tonight: PACA

Muscat: Tropical storm Mekunu, that's currently headed towards Salalah from the Arabian Sea, will turn into a Category 1 cyclone by 10:00 pm tonight, according to an official from the Public Authority of Civil Aviation's Meteorology Department

Khalid Al Wahaibi, Head of Forecasting and Early Warning System, told the Times of Oman that wind speeds have reached 45 to 50 knots, and added that the indirect affect of the cyclone will start from today, as it will start raining on Wednesday evening on the coasts of Dhofar and Wusta governorates.
The cyclone is now 820 km from Salalah, and the nearest convective clouds band from the Tropical Storm "Mekunu" is about 165km from the city of Salalah.
