State Council discusses role of education in imparting practical skills

Muscat: At its 10th meeting, the Bureau of the State Council discussed the “Development of Educational Training System” proposal of the Education and Research Committee.
At the meeting, chaired by Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, in the presence of the bureau members and the Secretary-General of the Council, the discussions focused on several subjects.
In this regard, the Bureau hosted Dr. Abdullah bin Mubarak Al-Shanfri, Committee Head, to discuss the proposal, which aims at diagnosing the current reality associated with the role of education in imparting the practical skills necessary for people to engage in the labour market, and to forge a clearer vision of linking theoretical education with practical operational aspects to ensure the realisation of the actual message of education.
The proposal will be presented at the forthcoming Regular Session of the Council, following the inclusion of the observations made by the members of the Bureau.
During the meeting, the Bureau also hosted Rayya Salim Said Al Manthri for a discussion on the “Language policy proposal in the Sultanate, its reality and its challenges and mechanisms for development and activation.”
Al Manthri explained that one of the objectives of the proposal was to diagnose the reality of using Arabic in the Sultanate, highlight its challenges and its effects and to formulate appropriate proposals through which the status of the Arabic language could be highlighted.
It also aimed to ensure the usage of Arabic was promoted in various governmental and private institutions and to propose a law or an official document to protect the Arabic language and fix an appropriate government entity to monitor the implementation. The Bureau also discussed the proposal by the Committee on Education and Research on the study, “Strengthening the role of education in supporting the knowledge-based economy”. Additionally, it reviewed the proposal by the Committee on Culture, Information and Tourism on the “The Traditional Crafts: Reality and Ambition Culture” and made observations on it.
The Bureau discussed the proposal submitted by Dr. Ismail Saleh Hamdan Al Aghbari and Mohamed Ahmed Ali Al-Rawas pertaining to the “Council’s participation in seminars and publications at the Autumn Salalah Festival”.
The Bureau noted the report submitted by Naashiah Al Kharousi, on her participation in the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the recommendations of the Forum Oman Environmental (2nd session-2018) and the recommendations of the Economic Vision Forum (7th session-2018), in addition to research work from the secretariat, and the follow-up report on the activities of the committees during the period between the previous Bureau meeting and the present meeting.
The Bureau identified the agenda items for the 10th and 11th Regular Sessions of the third annual session of the sixth term, to be held on June 26 and 27, 2018.
The meeting evaluated the outcome of the eighth and ninth regular sessions held on May 3 and 15, 2018.
