Oman Air flight to India diverted

Muscat: An Oman Air flight from Muscat to Mumbai was diverted to Hyderabad, on Sunday, due to air congestion over the Mumbai airport.
The flight later departed from Hyderabad and reached Mumbai.
According to reports from the Indian media, hundreds of flights were delayed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on Sunday, as the airport is upgrading its Instrument Landing System (ILS) that provides guidance to an aircraft approaching and landing on a runway.
Mumbai airport handles around 950 flight movements daily, around 45 flight movements an hour. Usually, flights take off and land on the main runway, but due to the system upgrade, flights are now using the secondary runway which has a lower capacity.
India’s premier airline, Jet Airways, said: “Arrival and departure delays are expected at Mumbai Airport till June 5, due to runway equipment upgradation activity at Mumbai. We request our guests to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.”
The statement added, "Due to the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) at Mumbai Airport, runway 27 being inoperative, we expect heavy air traffic congestion and consequential delays of up to 40 minutes of all arrivals and departures until 1600 hours."
