Jaipur: Shreyas Gopal did the star turn picking four wickets as Rajasthan Royals tamed Royal Challengers Bangalore for a 30-run victory in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Saturday.
The victory helped the Royals keep their play-offs berth hopes alive while ending those of Royal Challengers.
After opening batsman Rahul Tripathi struck a 58-ball 80 to help the Royals score a competitive total of 164 for five, young Shreyas Gopal’s leg-spin saw the RCB bowled out for 134 in 19.2 overs.
Though AB de Villiers raced to another fifty of the season, scoring a 35-ball 53, RCB failed to keep up the momentum and suffered the loss.
Jaydev Unadkat and Ben Laughlin with two wickets apiece and off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham with one scalp were the Royals other wicket-takers.
The victory helped the Royals moved to fourth in the standings with 14 points from 14 matches. Now they await the outcome of their remaining matches to know if they will make it to the play-offs.
RCB ended their engagements with 12 points from 14 outings.
