Light munition plant opened, to meet Oman needs

Sumail: Oman Munition Production Company celebrated yesterday the official opening of the light munition factory in the Wilayat of Sumail in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs .

After removing the plaque, the Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs toured the production lines of the factory.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman of Oman Munition Production Company presented a memento to the chief guest.

The project is one of the projects that aim at meeting the needs of the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the other military and security systems at the Sultanate for light munition.



Oman Munition Production Company has been established in response to the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces with direct investment by the military and security apparatuses pension funds.

The foundation stone of the factory, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate, was laid on March 26, 2015. The initial production started at the end of 2016.

On this occasion, Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs said that the light munition factory which was opened in response to the instructions of HM the Sultan aims at meeting the needs of SAF and other security and military apparatuses of light munition and contribute to the development witnessed by the Sultanate in all fields. It is also one of the promising investment projects as it was established by direct investments from the military and security pension funds.

Mohammed bin Nasser Al Rasbi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman of OMPC said: “This opening marks the completion of the facilities of the project and its associated systems and technologies in the field of light munition production. We also announce completion of all the facilities, quality systems and munition testing laboratories which play an important role in ensuring the quality of the products.”

The factory has been designed as per North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) standards. The factory can therefore meet the needs of SAF and other security and military services of high quality light munition.

The official opening ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, commanders of SAF, security and military services, senior officers, the Governor of A’Dakhiliyah, the Wali of Bidbid and a number of local officials at the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah.
