Ooredoo to help more people with new plan

Muscat: Having helped more than 140,000 people in Oman through its CSR programme, Ooredoo hopes it can provide assistance to many more people who require it in the future.
The latest initiative of Ooredoo Goodwill Journey, the telecom company’s corporate and social responsibility undertaking, begins on Sunday, May 27, and will see volunteers from the company travel more than 2,000km to provide vital development skills to underprivileged families.
What makes this even more impressive is that the Goodwill Journey takes place during the Holy Month of Ramadan, which will see volunteers brave scorching temperatures, while not consuming food or water.
Last year, Ooredoo opened more than nine incubators along with the Oman Women’s Associations across the nation, in order to teach women important skills such as tailoring, creating kitchen utensils, creating handbags, manufacturing soap and lotion, among others. More than 3,100 women have been trained till date.
This year, the company will open four more incubators across Sinannah in Buraimi, Maqshan in Dhofar, Izki and Samail. As a result, more than 200 women have begun their own businesses.
“Ramadan is such an important time of the year, dedicated to reflection and unity,” said Raed Mohammed Dawood, Director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo. “It is the perfect opportunity to serve and give back to the community, which is why Goodwill Journey 14 will go the extra mile with new initiatives and enriching partnerships.”
“In a Goodwill Journey first, Ooredoo will be promoting the digital lifestyle across the Sultanate through a specially developed app, which gives users access to a range of free educational courses,” he added. “This will help more people by creating long-term sustainable educational development and growth. By doing this, we hope to keep local communities inspired and enable them to fulfil their aspirations.”
The programme has empowered more than 171 groups and has seen volunteers travel more than 25,000km to help people across Oman.
From the capital city, the volunteers will make their way to Al Buraimi, Luwa, Al Mussanah, Al Rustaq, Izki and Samail Bidbid. During the second week, commencing on Sunday, June 3, the journey will continue from Al Wafa Centre in Al Amerat to the Southern areas of Bidiya, Duqm and Maqshan, concluding on Thursday, June 7.
