Oman registers Jabal Al Akhdhar goat breed on FAO website

Muscat: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, has managed to register and document Al Jabal Al Akhdhar Goat at the website of the World Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with conservation of local animal breeds known as DAD-IS in terms of their morphological and productive characteristics of the breed and genetic characterisation.
Within the same context, the Working Group for the registration and description of Omani animal breeds held its fourth meeting this year under the chair of Dr. Hamoud bin Darwish Al Hassani, Director General of Agricultural and Animal Research with the participation of specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Research Council and the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).
The proposed forms were reviewed by specialists in the Intellectual Property Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The group will complete the procedures for protecting the Omani breeds in order to legally document them.
