National Museum hosts mobile laboratory camp for school students

In an effort to encourage students to innovate, spread the culture of manufacturing, and introduce them to the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, the National Museum, represented by the Learning Centre, in cooperation with Innotech, hosts the “FabTech” mobile laboratory camp, which targets school students from 10-16 years during the period 9-27 July 2023 CE.

The laboratory aims to provide students with various skills through a series of workshops in the fields of manufacturing and the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution of programming, electronics and 3D printing, and to help them employ them in small projects of their innovation and creativity on the ground, in addition to developing problem-solving skills and creative thinking within the work team. Enriching their scientific output and preparing them for the requirements of the modern era.

Ms. Amina al-Abri, Head of the Learning Centre Department, said: “Hosting the camp comes within the comprehensive framework through which various educational activities are planned and developed within the work of the Learning Centre at the National Museum, especially after the success achieved by the laboratory last year in cooperation between the two sides, and this year a broader segment was reached. Among the beneficiaries, about 180 male and female students registered for the event.

For his part, Mr. Mohammed al-Kindi, a trainer in the "FabTech" laboratory, indicated that the laboratory contains a 3D printer specialised in additive manufacturing techniques, as well as innovation boxes, programming kits, and other tools and supplies that contribute greatly to molding students ideas into realistic models, such as Wood engraving machine and laser cutting machine. The laboratory also includes a mini-laboratory that simulates major factories and laboratories to introduce students to ways to take security and safety measures by wearing protective helmets and other protective means. The laboratory is also fully equipped to provide workshops on the basics of electricity and the correct methods of connecting electrical circuits".

It is worth noting that the "FabTech” Mobile Laboratory" is the first mobile manufacturing laboratory of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman. It is an educational initiative that aims to spread the culture of manufacturing and the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution in programming, electronics, design and 3D printing among academics, students and engineers. It is offered by Innotech under the umbrella of the Social Investment Program of BP Oman.
