USD 7 billion oil refinery being built in Oman

Muscat: Construction has begun on an oil refinery in Duqm which will cost $7 billion to build, according to the Ministry of Oil and Gas.

The Duqm Refinery Project is the second largest project in the Wusta governorate after the port of Duqm, and is slated to be completed by the end of 2021.

His Excellency Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, attending the laying of the cornerstone ceremony. Also in attendance was His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumahi, Minister of Oil and Gas.

"The refinery is expected to be completed in 42 months and will be built on an area of 900 hectares at a cost of $7 billion," the Ministry of Oil and Gas said in a statement.

The project will have the capacity to refine 230 thousand barrels of crude oil per day and will work on the production of diesel, jet fuel, naphtha, and LPG.
