Oman well equipped to tackle tourist medical emergencies: Health official

Muscat: Oman is well-equipped and prepared to treat medical emergencies of tourists, with the Khareef season round the corner, according to an official at the Ministry of Health.
“Each year, we aim to be and do better. This year, we have taken more precautions and made many more arrangements to help tourists. There has been a great improvement in the ambulance services throughout the Sultanate and more specialist doctors and surgeons are present in the emergency departments compared to previous years,” said Dr. Mahmood Al Rahbi, Senior Consultant in the Ministry of Health.

“Last year, we had some two million tourists visiting the Sultanate and some fell sick or got injured. I am extremely happy to say that all doctors were at their disposal,” Al Rahbi added, while chairing the organising committee of the fifth International Medical Tourism Exhibition and Conference (IMTEC) at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“Our goal is to make the Sultanate a popular destination for medical tourism as well,” said Al Rahbi.
“The objective of this conference is to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and scholars to share their experiences, as well as research results on all aspects of medical tourism and globalisation,” Al Rahbi added.
At IMTEC, 43 hospitals, medical centres, medical spas and eminent doctors from seven countries—Thailand, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Switzerland, Germany, and India—participated.
