Competency programme ends, Sayyid Shihab honours participants

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimour Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan patronised at the Sheraton Hotel on Sunday the conclusion of the 2nd version of Government Competency Programme.
The programme was implemented by the Ministry of Civil Service, in cooperation with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) and Kafa’ah Company for Human Resources Development.
Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimour Al Said, said in a press statement that the Government Competency Programme is one of the important programmes to enhance competencies of leaders at the public and other organisations.
He added that the Sultanate needs such competencies to develop management, leadership and innovation and create human resources that can take over leadership and management at the public and private organisations.
He also stressed the need to continue such programmes.
“This qualitative and specialised programme is one of the international programmes in the field of developing administrative leadership,” said Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service. He added that the themes of the programme cover the practical skills and creative talents that should be possessed by holders of seniors posts.
Sheikh Al Marhoon made a presentation on the areas related to enhancing practical efficiency and promoting the governmental work system.
He highlighted the prerogatives of the Ministry of Civil Service that included approving the organisational structures of the governmental institutions, as well as their development throughout the past four decades.
As more as 42 directors’ general, assistant directors’ general and their equivalents took part at the second version of the programme.
A number of elite lectures and speakers in the Middle East and the Arab region, in addition to undersecretaries and CEOs of public organisations and companies covered the main themes of the programme.
The programme aims at developing leading personalities that can promote change by providing them with several skills related to understanding the governmental work, the development in governmental organisations management and the best international practices in transforming governmental sector into an active and dynamic sector.
It also aimed at improving the top managements skills and knowledge through improving certain competencies, such as strategic, social and economic planning, performance assessment and management, project management, leading change, leading work teams and communication.
Thanks to this programme, participants managed to acquire more skills on adopting institutional vision and development, promoting innovation, ensuring effective leadership of work teams, building relation and continuous learning from the different available sources of information.
At the end of the ceremony, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimour Al Said, Advisor of His Majesty the Sultan honoured the participants at the second version of the programme and wished them success.
The closing ceremony was attended by their highnesses, ministers, undersecretaries and officials at various units of the state administrative apparatus.
