Oman Fisheries reports sales of OMR23m

Muscat: Oman Fisheries Company (OFC) reported sales of OMR23 million for the period from April 2017 to March 2018, according to the figures released by the company.
The company's net profit stood at OMR123,787 while the total sales during the period amounted to more 30, 597 metric tonnes.
Dr Khalid Zadjali, CEO of Oman Fisheries Company, detailed the organisation's vision for the next few years, said: "First of all, we are trying to have an integrated production chain. Nowadays, we don't have the source of the materials, by that I mean fish. So we are depending on fishermen and other sources, to get the raw materials. Our idea is to have and own our own fleet."
The fleet would be of commercial class as opposed to the variety of wooden traditional boats they currently have.
"We are planning to maximise the potential of our sister company, which is Al Ameen, and make it into a hub for logistic services company for the fisheries sector not only in Oman but throughout the region," he added.
Saying that the company's plans had the full support of the government, Dr Zadjali said, "Whatever we are proposing is fully supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries as well as other stakeholders."
The company was the first in Oman to receive the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accreditation and currently operates four ultra modern, European Union (EU) standard processing plants spread across the coast of Oman in Muscat, Masirah, Al Ashkara, and Salalah.
Each plant is equipped with modern freezing equipment, chill rooms, and extensive storage capacity. The long-list of fish processed by the company include snapper, rock lobster, squid, and baby shark among dozens of others. Currently, fish from Oman Fisheries Company is exported to 55 countries worldwide.
Many of its most popular products come from its taqa range of ready-to-cook seafood, including breaded fish burgers, prawns, seafood spring-rolls, and butterfly shrimps.
Oman Fisheries Co. is one of the oldest companies of its kind in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), having been established in 1989. The company procures fish from local fishermen through a network of procurement and processing centres along the coast of Oman as well as from its own traditional, coastal fishing boats. Additionally, the company has a state-of-the-art plant in Buraimi dedicated to processing various breaded and battered products.
