Oman's share index gains marginally

Muscat: Negative surprise in telecom sector capped the MSM30 Index gains at 0.05 per cent before closing at 4,769.42 points. The MSM Shariah Index declined 0.37 per cent to end at 666.51 points. Galfar Engineering was the most active in terms of volume while Bank Muscat led in terms of turnover. Muscat Thread Mills was top gainer, up 6.67 per cent while Oman Chlorine was top loser, down 9.09 per cent.

A total number of 1,071 trades were executed on Tuesday, generating turnover of OMR 3.53 million with 20.2 million shares changing hands. Out of 49 traded securities, 15 advanced, 13 declined and 21 remained unchanged. At the session close, Foreign investors were net buyers for OMR 299,000 while Omani investors were net sellers for OMR 279,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR 20,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 7,287.13 points, up 0.27 per cent. Al Madina Investments, Oman & Emirates Holding, National Life, Bank Muscat and Gulf Investment Services gained 3.77 per cent, 1.61 per cent, 1.20 per cent, 1.06 per cent and 0.92 per cent respectively. Oman United Insurance, DBIH, Al Madina Takaful and Ominvest declined 2.96 per cent, 2.91 per cent, 0.98 per cent, 0.55 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index gained 0.24 per cent to finish at 6,353.58 points. Muscat Thread Mills, Galfar Engineering and Oman Fisheries gained 6.67 per cent, 4.17 per cent and 1.77 per cent respectively. Oman Chlorine, Al Anwar Ceramics, Al Maha Ceramics and Raysut Cement declined 9.09 per cent, 0.84 per cent, 0.79 per cent and 0.55 per cent respectively.



Services Index retreated 0.42 per cent to end at 2,573.60 points. National Gas, Ooredoo and Muscat City Desalination increased 1.13 per cent, 0.81 per cent and 0.68 per cent respectively. SMN Power, Shell Oman, Omantel, Phoenix Power and ACWA Power lost 9.09 per cent, 2.59 per cent, 1.79 per cent, 0.72 per cent and 0.53 per cent respectively.
