Indian community pays tributes to Ambedkar on birth anniversary

Muscat: The Indian community in Oman on Saturday,marked the 127th anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, who is considered the father of the Indian constitution.
The Indian embassy organised functions on April 14 at the embassy’s auditorium to mark Ambedkar jayanti.
The event focused on Ambedkar’s life as well as his seminal contribution to evolution of an inclusive and democratic India.
Babasaheb as he is fondly called, was a radical social reformer, besides being the chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian constitution.

The commemoration at the embassy was attended by over 250 members of Indian community in Oman, including students, social workers. It was attended also by two Ambedkar International Missions in Oman and their members.
As part of the celebration, the ambassador Indra Mani Pandeyand others paid floral tributes to Ambedkar.
Furthermore, a pictorial tribute was followed by screening of two short videos on Ambedkar’s life and achievements.
Speaking on the occasion, Pandey paid tributes to Ambedkar. He invited the Indian community in Oman to learn more about the life and contributions of Ambedkar and to work towards creating an egalitarian society in India, which was the goal of his life.
Pandey also referred to the initiatives taken by the government of India in making popular, various facets of Ambedkar’s life and his contributions through Ambedkar International Centre and Ambedkar National Memorial.
“Dr Ambedkar dedicated his life to awaken the social conscience of modern India. He has a vast repertoire of books to his credit. His concern for the oppressed found expression in his books, ‘Annihilation of Caste’, ‘Who were the Shudras’ and ‘The Untouchables’.”
“He was also an economist par excellence and wrote ‘Administration and Finance of the East India Company’, which was followed by a sequel titled ‘The Evolution of Provincial Finance in British India”. Subsequently, Dr. Ambedkar wrote his magnum opus “Problem of the Rupee” in which the common man was the focal point of his analysis,” the ambassador said.
PapriGhosh, Principal of Indian School Al Ghubra and Presidents of two Ambedkar International MissionsPradeepManikraoDhawale and Suryakant Kirloskar spoke on this occasion.
A student from Indian School Muscat, made a presentation on Ambedkar’s life and work. Kanzah Zinoz, student of Indian School Darsait highlighted Babasaheb’s outstanding contributions as a scholar, educationist, journalist, administrator, parliamentarian, and jurist.
