Fixed broadband net subscription up 5.5 per cent in Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate’s fixed broadband internet subscription surged by 5.5 per cent to 368,046 in the first two months of 2018.
The total number of internet subscribers in the Sultanate, excluding active mobile broadband services, rose by 5.4 per cent to 370,428 during January-February period of 2018, according to the latest data released by National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The NCSI report also noted that the number of active mobile broadband subscribers receded by 5.4 per cent to 4.12 million by end-February 2018, from 4.35 million subscribers by the end of December 2017.
Fixed telephone lines
The total fixed telephone lines edged up by 3.6 per cent to 515,710 by the end of February 2018, from 497,716 subscribers by December-end 2017.
The number of voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) lines also surged by 9.7 per cent to 134,885 from 122,949 subscribers by the end of December 2017, the NCSI report added. Analogue fixed connections edged up by 1.5 per cent to 325,769 from 320,799 subscribers during the period under review. Public payphone remained unchanged at 6,801 connections, whereas ISDN channels and WLL connections rose by 2.4 per cent and 0.1 per cent to 46,578 and 1,677 connections, respectively.
Postpaid mobile connections increased by 2.1 per cent – from 664,466 subscribers to 650,812 customers in the first two months of this year. However, pre-paid mobile connections slipped by 2.4 per cent to 6140,798 from 6293,098 during the first two months of 2018. The number of subscribers of resellers plunged by 6.2 per cent to 993,127 from 1,058,512 during the two-month period under review. -
