SQU students win big at the Geo 2018 competition

Muscat: A group of students from the Department of Earth Sciences at the College of Science, Sultan Qaboos University, have won several awards at the GEO 2018 Earth Sciences Conference held in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
This year, nine universities from the Middle East participated in the competition.
The Sultan Qaboos University team consisted of five students: Mazen Al-Salmani, Nada Al-Wahaibi, Ahmad Al-Sabti, Safa Al-Busaidi and Hajar Al-Amri. Apart from the team, several other SQU students were part of the competition as well.
The team won first place in the Royal Petroleum Barrel (ABA) competition, ahead of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) who came second, while Kuwait University ranked third.
In the e-poster competition, Moza Al-Shidi, a student of SQU, won the first place. While a team from SQU which included Raad Al Shanfari, Marwa Al Mahrouqi and Zulfi Al Kharousi won the third prize in the GeoQuiz competition. The University also won the third place in the Powell Challenge competition.
