Washington D.C.: White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Monday, March 12, that the administration fully expects that the meeting between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will take place.
Sanders was asked if North Korea's silence on the meeting meant that it would not happen. "The offer was made, and we've accepted. North Korea made several promises, and we hope that they would stick to those promises. And, if so, the meeting will go on as planned," Sanders said.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also said on Monday that several steps will be necessary to agree the location and scope of talks between the United States and North Korea, during a visit to Nigeria's capital Abuja at the end of a week-long trip to five African countries.
Tillerson has been involved in discussions within the U.S. administration on a possible meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Tillerson did not clarify which steps were needed for the talks and declined to comment on potential locations.
