Citizen assaults Oman government employee, steals records

Muscat: A local man has been arrested on charges of robbery and assault in Al Buraimi, the Royal Oman Police announced.
According to authorities the man assaulted a civil servant and stole records of transactions from the Directorate General of Housing.
An official source at ROP said, "Al Buraimi police have arrested an Omani national accused of stealing records of transactions from the Directorate General of Housing in the province of Buraimi, after he assaulted one of the staff [members] and escaped to an unknown destination."
The accused was shortly arrested. The source added, "The search and investigation efforts resulted in the location and arrest of the accused."
The suspect has been referred to the judicial authorities.
Article 192 of the Omani penal code states that, "Any person who assaults or opposes a public servant or acts with violence or force while performing his duties, shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of not less than three months, not exceeding two years, and a fine not less than OMR300 and not more than OMR1,000."
