New $20m multiplex theatre announced for this mall in Oman

Muscat: The world’s fourth largest movie theatre circuit, Cinépolis, on Monday announced its entry into Oman with a $20 million (OMR7,690,000) multiplex theatre, to be launched at the Oman Avenues Mall (OAM) in Muscat.
The 14-screen auditorium and 1,474-seat multiplex, including luxury, Marco Xe and junior concepts, will be the entertainment anchor for OAM. The 4,396sq.m. cinema is projected to open in late 2018.
The second stage of mall development, which is in progress, encompasses enhancing and rejuvenating the retail mix by adding new and exciting brands to the mall portfolio. A major part of this transformation phase would be the introduction of the cinema complex, for which OAM has endorsed an agreement with Cinépolis.
Cinépolis is a leading world-class cinema exhibitor that offers guests an enhanced movie-going experience through its unique cinema and theatre concepts.
Being the fourth largest cinema exhibitor in the world, Cinépolis operates across the globe with locations spanning from the United States to the Indian sub-continent.
The Mexican chain of movie theatres entered the Middle East through a partnership with privately owned business conglomerate Al Tayer group, which is a prominent retail operator representing franchises such as Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Harvey Nichols, and Gucci, among others in the region.
The Cinépolis multiplex currently designed for OAM will have approximately 1,500 seats with an exclusive VIP lounge, as well as other experiences that are to be introduced in Oman for the first time.
“We are very happy to announce our entry into the market. Oman is an excellent location and we see a lot of potential here. Most importantly, the mall here and the partners we have (OAM) are just brilliant.”
Our strategy aligns with theirs as they are trying to provide the best customer experience, very similar to what we are doing. With such facilities, we are confident of having a successful venture in Oman and giving the audience here a good entertainment option,” Ahish Shukla, CEO of Cinépolis, GCC, said.
Shukla added that although the technology and expertise of Cinépolis were global, each cinema served local clients traditionally. “This will be seen in the food we serve and movies we screen. All of them would be according to what the Omani audience requires,” he said. Cinépolis operates 647 cinema complexes, 5,313 screens, and over 1.1 million seats across 14 countries worldwide.
