Washington D.C.: The White House is confident that it would prevail before the U.S. Supreme Court over the issue of thousands of immigrants brought illegally to the U.S. as children, a spokesperson said on Monday, March 5.
"We fully expect to win on an appeal and if we needed to go to the Supreme Court we feel very confident there as well, but again, it's Congress's job to pass laws," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said. "The president has laid out what he wants to see and the sad part is both Republicans and Democrats don't disagree on most of the merits of this legislation."
The immigrants, known as "Dreamers," are currently protected after the U.S. Supreme Court in February said the administration must maintain protections under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme.
Those protections were due to start phasing out on Monday, March 5, under President Donald Trump's action to rescind the programme.
