Muscat: The “Student’s Parent” application of the Sultanate’s Education Portal at the Ministry of Education won the award of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS 2018) in the category of easy access to information.

The winning attributes of the app were for ease of service delivery and interaction, ease of digital response to information and digital indicators available through it.

The honouring ceremony of the award will be held in Geneva, Switzerland at the end of March 2018.

The WSIS award is one of the world’s most prestigious awards to select the best services, applications and electronic content.

The award aims to reduce the digital divide among countries of the world. The award focuses on multimedia technology-based projects that effectively and creatively influence the digitalising cultural and scientific content.

The award includes eighteen categories that are directly related to the Summit’s action lines of the WSIS identified in the Geneva Plan of Action. The competition includes representatives of 168 countries from different continents of the world.

The “Student’s Parent” application previously won the shield of the Arab Smart Government 2017, being a smart application that provides continuous services of the ministry to different segments of the community.

It also avails the opportunity for the student’s parent to identify his/ her children’s data and schedules, student elective courses and results of educational assessment while providing the possibility of communication with teachers through the application’s windows.
