Oman Ministry announces suspension of work in rehabilitation centres in northern governorates

Muscat: After the Ministry of Education announced the suspension of studies in the northern governorates, the Ministry of Social Development announced the suspension of work and rehabilitation in government, family and private rehabilitation centers for persons with disabilities in the morning and evening periods in the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dhahirah today, Tuesday, due to the weather in the Sultanate of Oman. Work in the centers will resume tomorrow, Wednesday.

The Ministry of Education had announced the suspension of studies today, Tuesday, in all public and private schools in the morning and evening periods in the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dhahirah, due to the weather in the Sultanate of Oman.

It is noteworthy that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued an alert on Monday, of heavy rains that are likely to begin from Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023, until Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, and Al Dhahirah, which may range from 30 to 80 millimeters (within 24 hours).

The authority indicated that the rains are expected to extend gradually during afternoon and evening to include the governorates of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah, and extend during the night and Wednesday morning to include the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar.

The authority called on everyone to take precautions during thunderstorms, not to cross valleys, avoid low places, and not go to the sea during the warning period.

It explained that the expected effect during the alert period would be as follows:

1- The flow of reefs and valleys in some areas, which may be accompanied by active downward winds, sometimes with hail.

2- Low horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.

3- The sea will be medium to rough, on most coasts, with a maximum height of 1.5 to 3 meters.
