Oman relegated to WCL Division 3 despite win over Kenya

Muscat: Oman were relegated to ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 3 competition despite defeating Kenya in the ongoing Division 2 in Namibia on Wednesday.
In a rain affected match played at Windhoek, Oman defeated winless Kenya by two wickets on D/L method for their second in five matches.
The victory, however, went in vain as fifth-placed Oman as well as Kenya were relegated from the six-team Division 2.
Nepal and the UAE, who won four and three matches respectively have qualified for 2018 World Cup Qualifier. Canada and Nambia, who won three matches each, remain in Division 2.
On Wednesday, Oman elected field first and did well to bowl out Kenya for 200 in 49.5 overs.
For the Kenyan team, Rakep Patel topscored with 59 runs. For Oman, Kaleemullah picked three wickets while Fayyaz Butt and Bilal Khan bagged two each.
Following a rain break during Oman innings, the target was revised to 183 in 42 overs. Oman survived some tense moments towards the end but Jay Odedra with an unbeaten 23 saw the team over the line.
Earlier, Zeeshan Maqsood with a 33-ball 58 put Oman on the path to victory. Jatinder Singh (22) and Mohammed Nadeem (20), Kaleemullah (11) made valuable contributions.
On Thursday, Oman will once again taken on Kenya in the fifth-place playoff.
Asian Cup Qualifiers
Oman team’s next international assignment is the 2018 Asian Cup Qualifiers to be hosted in India in September.
The Asia Cup Qualifiers, a six-team event, will also involve Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and UAE with the winners qualifying for the Asia Cup 2018 later the same month.
The winners will join five Asian Test nations - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, for the 2018 Asia Cup. The winners will also qualify for the Emerging Teams’ Asia Cup in December, 2018 that will be the contest between U23 teams of Test nation and the national team of qualifiers.
