OOC hails Oman’s Gulf Cup winners

Muscat: The board members of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held their first meeting of the year at the headquarters of the Sultanate’s Olympic body on Wednesday.
The meeting, which was chaired by OOC chief Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, spoke about Oman’s achievements in the recent and the forthcoming international assignments.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair commended the achievement of Oman football team who won the title at 23rd Gulf Cup championship held in Kuwait in January.
According to a statement issued by OOC, Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair said ‘winning of the championship comes due to the significant support and efforts made by the Oman Football Association and the technical staff and the champions of our national team and the Omani spectators who supported the Reds since the beginning of the championship.”
The OOC chief thanked to the Ministry of Sports Affairs for ‘its effective initiatives in facilitating all requirements, which would further support the Olympic Movement in Oman’.
He also congratulated the sports associations and committees for the positive results achieved over her past year and recognised their cooperation and response in the best interest of Omani sport and hoped this year would witness further achievements and successes.
Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair also commended the efforts made by the General Secretariat of Oman Olympic Committee and various committees over the past year and called on them to exert more efforts in order to boost the roles assigned to them.
He also referred to successful hosting of several global events, including OCA Regional Forum, IOC Olympic Solidarity meeting, meetings of West and South Asia National Olympic Committees and the 48th CAS meeting and the meeting of the Regional Anti-Doping Organisation for GCC and Yemen (RADO).
The OOC board, meanwhile, finalised the plans for the committee’s next General Assembly which is now scheduled for March 25.
The meeting also discussed the preparations for Oman’s participation in the 18th Asian Games scheduled to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
While the official delegation to the Asian Games will be headed by Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair, the OOC has given an initial approval for the participation in athletics, swimming, shooting, football, beach volleyball, tennis, sailing, hockey, weight lifting and paragliding.
